Radio Scrappage Scheme

The latest technology to have a scrappage scheme could well be the radio. With the switch to digital broadcasting, your old fashioned analogue fm / am radio just won’t work, so retailers are looking for ways to get us switched over to digital radio before the old analogue service is switched off. They are backing a radio scrappage scheme that gets you a 20% discount on a new digital radio if you hand in your analogue radio.

The radio scrappage scheme will hopefully get round a number of problems. Firstly, people are sticking with their analogue radios because they work and a new radio is a cost they can do without. The second problem is the waste generated when people do switch over to digital radio. Instead of throwing the old radios into landfill, they can be traded in via the radio scrappage scheme, with the old radios being sent to countries that are sticking with the analogue system.

Radio Scrappage Scheme Partners

Digital Radio UK have being sounding out retailers such as Currys and leading radio manufacturers to see what can be done around the idea of a radio scrappage scheme, so we’ll have to wait ot see what comes out of any further meetings.
