Fridge Freezer Scrappage Scheme

Hot on the heals of the Comet tv scrappage scheme, Comet are now introducing a fridge scrappage scheme, freezer scrappage scheme, and washing machine scrappage scheme with up to £200 in savings when you trade in your old machine for a new one from the Bosch, Siemens, or Neff.

Comet recently signed the scrappage deal with white goods manufacturer BSH Appliances to offer a 20% price cut on its leading brands. The move follows calls from the British Retail Consortium to bring in the white goods scrappage scheme to boost sales, or as they put it, to encourage the switch over to energy efficient models. Forget the energy efficiency ideals, as the energy required to build a new machine and get it to your house outweighs any efficiency savings for relatively new machines. It’s a brilliant way to pitch a 20% sales drop wrapped up with a ‘green’ message. That said, if you’ve got an old fridge, freezer, or washing machine that’s on its last legs, the 20% saving on a new model is a great saving. A modern fridge freezer could save you £45 a year in running costs compared to a fridge freezer made in 1995, so if you have one of the reported 15 million fridges, freezers, and washing machines that are more than 10 years old, now could be a good time to take advantage of the Fridge Freezer Scrappage Scheme.

Fridge & Freezer Scrappage

Just like the tv scrappage scheme from Comet, they will pick up your old machine when they drop off the new one when you buy online. If you have a car big enough to carry a fridge, freezer or washing machine you’re more than welcome to lug it over to your local Comet when you buy in store. I know which option I’ll be choosing!
